Introduction to Authentic Movement

Rooted in the work of Mary Whitehouse and Janet Adler, Authentic Movement is a practice of deep inner listening.

With eyes closed and attention turned inward, we follow subtle impulses as movement arises from within.

In the presence of a compassionate witness, we enter a space where the body speaks, the psyche moves, and the unseen finds form.

This is not a dance class. There is no right or wrong way to move.

All that’s needed is a willingness to be present with what arises in your body.

Deniz Oktay, MS, BC-DMT, LCAT, RCST is a Dance/Movement Therapist and Craniosacral Therapist based in Brooklyn. She brings over 20 years of experience in trauma-informed, body-centered healing and is currently engaged in advanced study of the Autonomics framework with Gabriel Kram. Her work blends depth, gentleness, and reverence for the wisdom of the body. She holds a Certificate in Authentic Movement from the New York Center for the Study of Authentic Movement.
